The new competitive swim season is well underway and swimmers from York City Baths Club (YCBC) are already hitting great form with success at the recent County and Regional Championships.

In October, the Yorkshire Swimming Winter Competition 2024 took place, and the club was well represented. YCBC competitors took to the water in more than 300swims, three quarters of which saw personal bests recorded, with 18 medals won. These included golds for Annabel Edwards (2), Raya Harrand, Stan Sawyer, Samantha Taylor and Charlie Rodgers.

The competition then moved on to the Swim England North East Short Course Regional Championships in early November, where again the squad – ranging in age from 11-18 years – faced some of the best swimmers in the north of England. This time, across 140 swims, YCBC came away with 20 hard won medals, including golds for Olivia Allen, Annabel Edwards, Stan Sawyer and Megan Mills.

The busy period of short course racing concludes in early December at the Winter Nationals, where Callum Aitken, Raya Harrand, Megan Mills. Philip Suddes and Alexander Tew have all qualified to compete.

Josh Spencer, YCBC Head Coach, said of the results: “It was great to see a growing number of swimmers making their first of hopefully many Yorkshire and NER appearances. Collectively, the results show that the squad is in terrific form, which is reflected in the number of personal bests and medals won. It also gives them a great base to go on and perform well for the rest of the season.”
