One Plant York Revitalisation!

On Friday October 23rd, several of the members of One Planet York gathered together in a carefully distanced manner to re-inflate the One Planet York globe and to announce the Revitalisation of One Planet York. Here is a picture of some of them with the globe.

The organisation was started in 2016 as a joint venture between York Environment Forum and City of York Council, to help the city become more sustainable and to live more within One Planet Principles. This means behaving less as if we have the resources of 3 planets to use, which is how we are currently carrying on.

With the announcement of the Council’s goal to become Carbon Neutral by 2030, the group felt it was time to reactivate those principles and get started on helping local groups, businesses and organisations as well as individuals to attain the 10 One Planet Principle goals.

As part of the upcoming York Environment Week from November 28th – Dec 6th (YEW), Chair June Tranmer said:

“We wanted to take this opportunity to show what One Planet York are becoming, as a more pro-active organisation and so we have two events in YEW.

The first one will be on Monday November 30th, from 19:00 – 20:30, with Mike Berners-Lee as the keynote speaker. He is a researcher and writer on carbon footprinting. He is Professor in Practice at the Lancaster Environment Centre and Fellow of the Institute for Social Futures at Lancaster University, and founder of Small World Consulting.  Mike is the author of ‘How Bad Are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything’ (published 2010 and republished in a new and updated edition 2020) and ‘ There Is No Planet B: A Handbook for the Make or Break Years’ (2019) and The Burning Question (with Duncan Clark, 2013).

Bring your questions for him. In the second half of the meeting, there will be a discussion with our panel of members of One Planet York – looking in more detail at some of the 10 Principles of One Planet Living.

The second event will be a look at our mobile phones (Your Mobile Phone and The Planet)

How sustainable and useful they can be, as well as their challenges when wanting to live a low – carbon  and ethical life. This will be on Friday Dec 4th from 14:00 – 15:30.”

Both events are on Zoom and are free to attend. They have Eventbrite tickets, so the organisers can assess how many attendees there are.

PM discussed Brexit and Good Friday Agreement with Biden No 10 source says

Boris Johnson sought to allay Joe Biden’s concerns that Brexit could damage the Northern Ireland peace process during their first call since the US president-elect triumphed over Donald Trump, according to a No 10 source. The Prime Minister was among the first world leaders to secure a call with the Democrat since his victory in the November 3 election, which the Republican incumbent is controversially continuing to contest. The former […]
