Residents in York will have the chance to learn more about plans for devolution and ask questions about the process, at a series of forthcoming drop-in events.

City of York Council

The events will take place at York’s Explore centres. A team from City of York Council will be available to offer more information about the proposed devolution deal, answer questions and give further background information.

The events are part of a major public consultation which is giving residents, community groups and businesses as well as academic institutions, charities, and voluntary organisations the chance to share their views on devolution for York and North Yorkshire.

The draft deal offers devolved powers and millions of pounds in funding to improve transport networks and education, increase job opportunities and boost economic growth. It also places York and North Yorkshire at the forefront of the green energy sector to tackle climate change.

The planned 30-year deal has the potential to bring wide-ranging benefits for future generations to tackle regional inequalities, as well as helping to resolve economic differences between urban and rural areas.

York residents are invited to attend any of the drop-in events in November and December. People are invited to call in at any point between the two times:

  1. 23 November - Clifton Explore Centre – between 12.30pm - 5.30pm
  2. 30 November - York Explore City Centre – between 9.30am-13.30pm
  3. 07 December - Acomb Explore Centre - between 9.30am - 13.00pm

City of York Council’s leader, Cllr Keith Aspden, said:

“These drop-in events are a great opportunity for people to ask any questions they have about devolution and learn more about how the proposed deal and the changes and opportunities it would bring for York.

“I hope as many residents and businesses as possible will take the opportunity to attend one of the Explore centres, learn more and share their views on what is a major decision for York and North Yorkshire.”

People unable to attend the drop-in events can find out more about the proposed devolution deal and to take part in the consultation online, which runs until Friday 16 December 2022 by visiting: ynydevolution.com.
