WILL JUBB will enter into his seventh season at York City Knights next year after signing a new deal with the club.

Jubb is one of York's longest-serving players, having first joined the Knights on dual registration from Hull KR back in 2017.

The hooker completed a permanent deal with James Ford's side a year later and was integral in the teams which won the Betfred League One title and finished third in the Betfred Championship in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

The 25-year-old reached 100 appearances for York back in April's 38-6 home win over Newcastle Thunder, having racked up a total of 117 to date, scoring 23 tries.

On retaining the number nine, head coach Ford said: “I see Will as a key re-signing for the club, both as a player and as a person.

"He trains to a first-class level all week, all year round and sets standards for other players to aspire to achieve.

“I think you can see that in how he has improved over the past couple of years as a player, most notably in his defence to a level where I’d put him down as the best defensive hooker in the competition.

“He regularly gets through between 40 and 60 tackles, often with no misses, and that really does take some doing.

"The contact that he dishes up and the ruck wins he delivers for our team really helps what we aspire to do. He is a really significant member of that middle unit.

“There are parts of Will’s game that we want to keep adding to and he is completely on board with it.

"He wants to be pushed, he wants to learn and he wants to reach some new heights as a player. I’m sure that, with his attitude and his drive, we will see even more improvements from Jubby in the future.”

Jubb added: “I’m over the moon. It’s no secret I love playing here and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done, moving to York. I love playing here, playing in front of our fans and playing for Fordy.

“The fans have really taken to me as one of their own, which means a lot to me and my family. I’m over the moon to be staying.”

The deal to re-sign Jubb, who becomes the 11th confirmed squad member for 2023, was aided by the Knights Squad Builder fund.
