York City has announced the capture of forward Aiden Marsh on an initial one-month loan deal from Barnsley.
The youngster has made a promising start to the 2023/24 season, scoring 7 times in 6 games for Barnsley’s U23 side in the Professional Development League, which included a hat-trick in their 4-2 win over Swansea City in August.
Marsh has also made three appearances so far this season for The Tykes in League One, with one of those games seeing the young forward assist John McAtee’s goal in a 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic last month.
The 20-year-old forward first joined the South Yorkshire club in October 2014 from Sheffield United, before working his way up in the youth-team set-up at the club, which saw him earn his first professional contract in September 2020.
He made his professional debut for the club in the 2021/22 campaign, coming off the bench to feature in their 1-0 defeat at home to AFC Bournemouth, before making his first start for the club in April 2022, where he netted the opener against Preston North End.
Highly regarded by the South Yorkshire based club, Marsh has worked his way through the club’s academy, which saw him score three times for their U18’s side in the Professional Development League in 2018-19, before being rewarded with his U23’s debut against Bolton Wanderers in September 2018, aged only 15.
Following impressive performances at the club’s academy, the young forward earned a call-up to an England U17 training camp, which was held in November 2019.
A short loan spell in the National League followed last season, featuring on three occasions for Scunthorpe United before a fractured foot injury de-railed his season.
Welcome to the Minstermen, Aiden!
